Firemen fouls woman’s threat to jump

SIBU: Swift actions by firefighters managed to stop a 27-year-old woman from China who threatened to jump from the fifth floor of a hotel at Jalan Pahlawan last Sunday (Dec 13).

The State Fire Department operations centre despatched firemen from the Sungai Merah fire station to the scene after receiving an emergency call around 3.36pm. 

They arrived to find the woman standing next to a railing on the fifth floor of the building.

The firemen tried to persuade her not to jump from the building while rescue equipment was being readied.

After the equipment was installed, the firemen immediately pounced on the woman from the next room while she was chatting.

The woman was later handed over to the police for further action.

Present at the scene were Sarawak Fire Department Zone 4 (Sibu) chief Janggan Muling and Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit.
