UPDATE
The Fire and Rescue Department which received a report at 8.34pm sent a team of 22 personnel from two fire stations to the scene.
When they arrived at the scene they discovered that the smoke was from the fireworks being lit. The building was safe.
KUCHING: Fireworks misfired and shot into a shophouse at the 3rd mile area in Kuching this evening, the eve of the Lunar New Year.
No details are available at this time and the extent of damage to the premises.
Meanwhile, those who light up fireworks and firecrackers are cautioned to take note of their surroundings, including vehicles, children and animals nearby.
