KUCHING: Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata will be the first Dayak of Iban descent to officially helm the post of Sarawak Police Commissioner.

Outgoing Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said he (Mancha) will assume his new post on or before Nov 13 this year.

“We are currently discussing when the handover ceremony will take place as there will be representatives coming in from Bukit Aman Police Headquarters, either the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) or the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIGP).

“Mancha will be the first Dayak of Iban descent to helm this post.

“It is high time for Mancha to lead the police force in Sarawak,” he told reporters in a press conference on Monday (Oct 16).

When asked on his plans as the incoming Sarawak Police Commissioner, Mancha, who is from Kota Samarahan, said he would continue the initiatives and plans set forth by his predecessor.

“We will continue the efforts that were done by the previous police commissioner.

“In addition, we will also implement whatever plans that made,” he said briefly.

Last Friday, Bukit Aman Police Headquarters announced Mancha’s promotion in a statement issued in its Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Mohd Azman will be promoted as the new Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department director.

The post of Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner will be assumed by Datuk Ibrahim Darus, who is currently the Bukit Aman Special Branch (E1) principal assistant director.
