KOTA SAMARAHAN: Maj-Gen Hassan Embong has been named the new commander of the First Infantry Division replacing Maj-Gen Datuk Dzulkafli Mustaffa who is due to retire early next year.

The handing over of duties ceremony was held at the Muara Tuang Army Camp today witnessed by Eastern Army Field Commander Lt-Gen Datuk Mardzuki Muhammad.

An army parade consisting of 27 officers and 461 personnel was mounted in conunction with the ceremony.

It was led by the 10th Battalion Border Regiment commanding officer Lt-Col Shafiron Saad.

Johor born Hassan, 57, who has nearly 37 years of experience in the military has held various important portfolios previously.

On Aug 30 this year, the new commander was promoted to the rank of Major General and will serve as the 29th commander of the First Infantry Division.

Before this, he was the Director-General of Operations and Training at Eastern Army Field Command Headquarters, Muara Tuang Camp.

Meanwhile, 59-year-old Dzulkafli from Kedah who was appointed as the 28th commander of the First Infantry Division on June 19, 2020, will be undergoing a transition training before compulsory retirement in February 2023.

Also present at the ceremony were the Third Infantry Brigade commander Brig-Gen Mohd Kamil Abdul Latif, the Ninth Infantry Brigade commander Brig-Gene Shauri Mat Piah and the 31st Infantry Brigade commander Brig-Gen Abdul Jalal Zaidi Abdul Majid.
