LIMBANG: The first phase of the Limbang Waterfront Project is expected to be completed by Aug 31 this year.

Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the project experienced delays due to various issues, including the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, he said the appointed contractors have given assurance that the first phase of the project will be completed within the set timeframe.

“The Limbang Waterfront Project is divided into three phases, with the entire project expected to be completed by mid or late 2025. Once completed, it will be the longest waterfront in Sarawak, measuring 1.8 kilometres in length.

“So, this is a highly anticipated project and recreational area for the people of Limbang and also visitors from outside the region,” he said during a site visit here, recently.

With the completion of the first phase later, Abdul Rahman expressed hope that various activities can be held in the area.

“In September we will have the Chinese Community Cultural Festival and we expect it to be held here,” he said.

He also hoped the agencies involved in the project will manage the site well and clearly mark areas that are still closed to the public since the project is being carried out in phases.

“We also hope that the agencies (involved) can repair any damaged roads near this project immediately,” he said.
