The 'Ops Limau' raid that resulted in the arrest of five locals at an open area along Jalan Stutong.

KUCHING: Five locals, including an elderly man, were busted for engaging in a cockfighting session at an open area along Jalan Stutong here yesterday (Feb 8).

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said a team from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) conducted an operation codenamed ‘Ops Limau’ at the scene after receiving public tip-off.

“All the suspects, in the middle of their gambling, were quickly rounded up by the team.

“The police also seized 10 roosters, a weighing scale and cash amounting to RM310,” he said.

The suspects, aged between 26 and 60, will be remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to facilitate investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 73(1)(g) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999, which provides for a fine of up to RM2,000 or imprisonment of up to six months or both, upon conviction.
