SARIKEI: Sarikei District Council recorded several achievements throughout last year, said its chairman Wong Zee Yeng.

She cited among others its five-star recognition and improvement in its balance sheet.

“Besides that, the overall performance and administrative and financial management also reached an excellent level which is Grade A based on the Electronic Compliance Self Assessment (eCSA) in addition to being re-certified by MAMPU for the Conducive Ecosystem of the Public Sector (EKSA) effective from June 1, 2023 until May 31, 2025,” she said during the council meeting, recently.

She hoped the council will continue to implement and comply with EKSA to continue the culture of organisational excellence and organise programmes that are in line with the Sarawak government’s aspirations of environmental sustainability and sustainable development goals.

Meanwhile, Wong also informed that the council will launch a ‘Say No To Styrofoam And Plastic Straw’ awareness campaign on July 29 at Medan Selera, here.

“This awareness campaign will be carried out continuously and at the same time the council is also asking for feedback from the public including food and beverage shops regarding the campaign and the council’s intention to enforce this matter,” she said.

She added that this year, the council will be organising a recycling competition with the objective to instill and foster awareness of the importance and benefits of recycling.

“This programme also aims to encourage community involvement to jointly preserve and conserve the environment for the sake of future generations. This competition will run between Aug 1 and Nov 30,” she said.
