KUCHING: The Lawas short take-off and landing airport (STOLport) is temporary closed due to flood following non-stop heavy rains on Wednesday (May 19).

Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the closure is expected to be for a few days, but the terminal is not affected as it is located at a higher ground.

“The closure is to allow the clearing up of debris and mud, especially at the runway. It normally takes about two days to complete but it is subjected to the quantum of debris and mud to be cleared and cleaned as well as the weather.

“Therefore, the Lawas STOLport is expected to resume operation this Sunday (May 23),” he said in a statement today (May 20)

He added that the temporarily closure from today (May 20) until 22 May (Saturday) will affect the operation of 30 flights involving 324 passengers.

“In this regard, the affected passengers are advised to contact MasWings Sdn Bhd (toll free number 1300-88-3000) to get more details on the status of their flights and tickets including requests for flight changes or refund subject to the terms and conditions of the tickets fare,” he said.
