MIRI: Firefighters from Lopeng fire and rescue station on Monday night were deployed to Rumah Apol, Sungai Liam to conduct monitoring works after the surrounding area was inundated following heavy rainfall.

Zone 6 Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said upon firefighters’ arrival at 10.18pm, they were told by the affected residents of the three-door longhouse that they refused to be evacuated as they didn’t want to leave their belongings behind.

However, they hoped that relevant authorities would deliver food supply and basic necessities to their longhouse to tide over the situation.

Meanwhile, the water level at SK Long Panai, Baram which has been high since Monday, has gradually subsided yesterday morning (Oct 5).

The water level at the school was 2.6 feet deep following heavy rainfall during the weekend and flooded the school’s football field, a generator set and a pump house.

No evacuations were carried out as the students were at their respective homes for their online home-based teaching and learning (PdPR).
