Food bank helps underprivileged students

MUKAH: The ‘Food Bank Siswa’ programme, which helps students from disadvantaged families, continues to receive positive feedback from various parties.

According to Department Head of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Mukah Salihin Den, Balingian Energy Minerals is one of the contributors to this programme.

“They have donated RM4,000, which is RM2,000 to Polytechnic Mukah (PMU) and the same amount was also given to Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Mukah.

“This donation is in the form of food and items for daily use of the students,” he said during the Students Food Bank Programme at PMU and UiTM Mukah, here, yesterday.

Commenting further, he said, the objective of this programme was to deal with the rising cost of living faced by students.

“And subsequently reduce the load of the students so that they can focus more during learning.

“In addition, fostering the spirit of volunteerism among students and giving exposure to students to manage an organisation,” he explained.

At the same time, he said, this programme is a continuation of the Food Bank Malaysia Programme which was launched on Dec 22, 2018.

For this programme, various sectors such as supermarkets, bakeries, corporate and private companies have given their cooperation and become contributors.

“This year as well, the estimated total contribution is RM2,500 from five companies and a supermarket.

“At the same time, we always welcome the involvement of various sectors to contribute and contact us to facilitate the coordination of the donation process,” he explained.

He hoped that this programme could be implemented all the time to achieve the target of helping the needy and thus saving money for other expenses.
