KUCHING: The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has decided that food vendors would be allowed to operate during Ramadan on condition that they only sell takeaways from their homes.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stressed that markets, bazaars, and grouped stalls selling necessities and food for Hari Raya Puasa would not be allowed to operate throughout Ramadan.

“Permitted trading hours are from 3pm to 10pm when traders and customers must practise social distancing and good hygiene as well as wear face masks,” he said at a Covid-19 daily update press conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here yesterday.

He said that all hotels, restaurants, and fast food restaurants would be allowed to sell takeaways from 3pm to 10pm during Ramadan.

“Online sales and home deliveries are encouraged,” he said.

Abdul Karim urged the public not to take advantage of the adjustment in timing to go out until 10pm for other purposes as the measure was specifically for the purchase of food for breaking fast and ‘sahur’.
