Foreigner arrested after dead infant found

PADAWAN: A 23-year-old foreign woman has been arrested in connection with the discovery of a lifeless newborn baby girl in the dumpster area in MJC Batu Kawa yesterday.

Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the arrest was made by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Batu Kawa police.

“Acting on information, the team arrested the suspect at a rental house at around 1.15 am early this morning (Nov 23).

“The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body, which carries up to two years in prison or a fine or both, if convicted,” he said.

He noted that the police were alerted to the incident by members of the public at around 9.50 pm.

Subsequently, personnel from Padawan CID, Batu Kawa police station, and the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters were dispatched to the scene for a thorough investigation.

The baby’s body was taken to Sarawak General Hospital’s (SGH) forensics department for post-mortem examination.

Abang Zainal advised the public to refrain from making speculations that could interfere with the ongoing investigation.
