Foreigner charged with murdering countryman

MIRI: A 40 year-old Suluk man from a neighbouring country was charged with killing a fellow countryman earlier this month.

Sibal Hamid, was brought to the court complex on Monday morning clad in a police lock-up attire and escorted by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel.

He nodded after the charge was read out to him before Magistrate Randu Ragen.

However, no plea was recorded.
Sibal was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code with murdering his countryman, one Mr X, at a vacant area outside the gate of No.14 Miri Airport , Jalan Lapangan Terbang Miri here, between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Feb 12.

He will face the death penalty if found guilty of the offence.

Sibal was also charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 with having no valid pass or permit to stay in Malaysia.

ASP Mary Ong prosecuted while Sibal was not represented.

The court fixed March 27 for mention.
