Dr Jerip poses for a group photo with PUBP committee members for the 2022 to 2024 term

KUCHING: Persatuan Usahawan Bidayuh Penrissen (PUBP) has been urged to formulate its database as well as the tourism products in its area.

The PUBP’s new logo represents the Bidayuh colours.

Its patron Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the database would enable the association to identify, for instance, the number of architects, engineers, plumbers, coffee producers, air-conditioning repairmen and others in Penrissen.

“The association can create a progressive database with a constant multiplier of information on skilled individuals.

“From there, new members who want to join the association need to have a set of skills.

“With this database, you do not compete with each other but you help each other to grow. It is not just limited to the members’ database. You can also create a database on the number of homestays or waterfalls we have in Penrissen,” he said during the official launch of PUBP’s new logo at a renowned hotel here on Saturday (Feb 19).

The Assistant Transport Minister cum Mambong assemblyman pointed out that these databases would be assets in the future.

“Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has two things in mind for the   Bidayuh areas in Penrissen.

“He wants Penrissen to become a tourism belt as some parts of the areas come under the Unesco Geopark. Secondly, he wants to make Bau, Serian and Penrissen a food basket area.”

Dr Jerip said PUBP should strategize and start with something small in line with what the Chief Minister had in mind for the Bidayuh areas. One of them was to start coordinating the tourism products and selling them through Facebook.

He added the association should not forget about the common people who wanted to have a livelihood for their families and start their own businesses.

He said the association should help these people to start their businesses.

PUBP chairman for the 2022 to 2024 term, Jores Sedek explained that the association had a meeting with the Cooperative Commission of Malaysia (SKM) Sarawak earlier on.

“From there, our committee agreed to establish a cooperative under PUBP as the parent body, with the proposed name of PUBP Cooperative Berhad.

“This cooperative will be chaired by Dr Frank Kiong, who is the association’s deputy chairman for 2022 to 2024 the term.

“We are inspired by our patron to establish a cooperative as our association’s business wing to move further,” he said.

On the launching of PUBP’s new logo, Frank said the circular logo had three colours – yellow, red and black, which represented the Bidayuh colours. The circle represented the association’s unity and collaboration.

“Overall, the new logo shows that the association has strength, is full of energy and has the courage to make things happen. It also shows that it is not stagnant but rather agile and is constantly revolving,” he said.

The association’s committee members for the 2022 to 2024 term are Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik (advisor), Wilson Mapus (technical advisor), Meehan Jorai (technical advisor), Aden Nagrace (secretary), Agatha Charlotte Gerek (assistant secretary), Margaret Nyoweng (treasurer), and Jacob Sab (assistant treasurer).
