KUCHING: Biographical writing in Sarawak is thriving and the number of biographical works surpass that of other states, said biographical author Professor Dr Roosfa Hashim.

The Associate Professor at IIUM Gombak Campus Dr Roosfa said four biographies  had been released in the past two weeks, including that of the fourth and former Head of State, the late Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub.

“In fact,  several more books will follow, to be published in the near future on various topics.

“Furthermore, the diversity of biographical writing in Sarawak extends beyond politics to include literature, flora and fauna, among other subjects,” he said.

Roosfa said this during an interview with New Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak, led by its CEO Datuk Dr Jeniri Amir at its office here today (Nov 30).

Expanding on the topic, he said although the overall number of biographical writing in Malaysia had been reasonable, it had not reached its full potential.

“The quantity is acceptable thus far but there are still credible figures whose stories remain undocumented and unexplored through this form of writing,” he said.

To this end, Dr Roosfa underscored the importance and impact of increasing the number of biographical works, stating that biographies served as historical documentation for future generations.

“Depending on the chosen figures, whether a sports personality, artist, politician or others, their life stories can be valuable learning materials for readers of future generations.

“Regardless of the chosen figures, biographical works  can leave behind  useful records, simultaneously serving as an example for society,” he added.

Dr Roosfa is currently working on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s biography titled ‘Perjalanan Politik Abang Johari’, which is set to be published soon.
