KUCHING: Creative industry players can seek funding from the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP).

Its Deputy Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting said that the ministry received a facilitation fund from the Premier amounting to RM10 million last year.

From April to December 2022, his ministry approved and gave out RM4.65 million to finance various types of programmes under the creative industry, including publication of books.

“For this year, we still have RM5.35 million available and up to a week ago, there were eight applications that have been approved and we had given out a total of RM350,000,” he told a press conference on Book Fair 2023 at Baitulmakmur Building II here today.

With the availability of the fund, he encouraged book writers and creative industry players to apply for the fund.

“You can go to our website and see if any of the categories in the creative industry is under what you are doing. After that, you can approach us and apply for the fund.

“It will normally take two to three months to process because once you submit your application, our officer will sit down with you and go through the details with you,” he said.

Following this, Ting disclosed that the fund will be available until the end of this year.

“However, if we use up all of the funds given before then, we can always go and meet the Premier to request for more funds.

“This is because the idea of this fund is to help our people in the creative industry,” he said.
