Gardener jailed for beating wife over infidelity

KUCHING: A gardener was jailed for two weeks and fined RM2,000 for beating his wife over her infidelity.

He had suspected his wife of cheating with another man after reading their WhatsApp conversations.

The Magistrates’ Court here on Friday (19 August) sentenced the 26-year-old accused from Niah after he pleading guilty to two charges read before him.

In the first charge, he was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 326A of the same code, for slapping the face, hitting the right arm and pushing the chest of his 19-year-old wife causing injury.

In the second charge, he was charged according to Section 506 of the Penal Code, for threatening to kill his wife.

He was charged with committing both offences at a budget hotel in Kota Sentosa at about 2am, Aug 15.

Based on the case brief, the accused hit and slapped his wife after reading the conversations between her and another man on WhatsApp.

The accused had also asked the victim to explain who the man was but she refused to do so and this further angered the accused, leading him to threaten her.

The wife was sent to the hospital and then made a police report that led to the arrest of the accused on the same day.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Insp Mohd Adzmei Ahmad while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
