DARO: The people has been urged to support the candidate fielded by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) for the Igan parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15) with all of their might.

However, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg withheld the candidates’ names.

“Give your greatest support to the GPS candidate, who will be carrying our flag in this area (Igan),” he said.

He was speaking during the leaders with the people session at the Daro New Township Hall here today.

In the previous general election (GE14), Ahmad Johnie defeated Andri Zulkarnaen Hamden of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) by a majority of 8,495 votes.

The first-term MP may be renominated in the upcoming parliamentary election as Abang Johari, who is also the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) chairman, said that the party’s policy is to allow first-time MPs to serve for at least two terms.

“In PBB, we train our leaders before placing them in their respective state and federal seats so they can become familiar with running those areas.

“For this area, we are lucky that we have young MPs who serve for one term,” said Abang Johari.
