Miri: Former Miri mayor Datuk Lawrence Lai will be contesting for the highly sought-after Miri parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15)

Lai, who is now Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) vice-president, said his local party is able to defend and fight for Sarawak rights for the interest of the people.

“There are many issues, one of which is about the budget allocations. We, Sarawak got only 1.5 per cent which is less than last year. Even Sabah received more,” he told reporters after purchasing a nomination form for GE15 today.

“Malayans do not treat Sarawak seriously… As Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has said, we are equal partners yet we are given such an allocation,”

For the record, Lai was with SUPP for over three decades before he left the party in August 2021 to join PSB early this year.

Lai told the reporters that he is putting himself forward as PSB’s candidate because he believed the party could ensure check and balance at the grassroots level.
