MIRI: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) has high hopes on Jeffery Phang to recapture the Miri parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election.

SUPP Senadin chairman Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin has described Phang as the party’s ‘manok sabung’ (fighting cock) that has the potential to wrest the Miri seat from the opposition.

“Phang is our ‘manok sabung’ with sharp blades or gaffs to recapture Miri constituency,” said Lee in his opening address during the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) mobilisation high tea event today (Nov 5).

He also called on electorates, especially young voters, to step up to the challenge in making a change in the coming GE15.

“We need a bigger voice in Parliament to voice out our interest (Sarawakians) at the federal level. For the past ten years under the opposition, what did we get in Miri? We get nothing,” he said.

Meanwhile, Phang has vowed to put the interest of the people as his main priority if elected in the GE15.

“We will push more development for Miri, such as requesting for more health facilities to be built here apart from better improving the road connectivity including to restore the Jalan Pujut-Lutong KM6 project which had been cancelled by the 22-month government,” said Phang.

Miri constituency, based on Election Commission data, has a total 143,229 voters, out of which 40,987 are those aged from 18 to 29 years-old.

For two terms, the constituency was held by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
