KUCHING: Thirty one councilors for Gedong district took their oath of office for the period Jan 1, 2024 to Mar 31, 2025.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who is also Gedong assemblyman attended the swearing-in ceremony at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre here today (March 4).

He congratulated the councilors on their appointment while urging them to carry out their duties under the leadership of Council chairman Tamida Da’adi.

According to a statement from the council, since Gedong was declared as a full district, it is necessary for the district to have its own council.

“The existence of Gedong District Council will empower the planning and implementation of development activities in the Gedong area as a whole.

“Through this, local leaders who are appointed as councilors can play an important role to help intensify the development of the district while delivering quality and more effective services to the people in the Gedong area,” it said.

Adding on, the statement said that in order to realise development in the area, the council would facilitate the development programmes of both the State and Federal governmens as well as the private sector in Gedong.

During the ceremony, the Gedong District Council logo was also launched, manifesting the desire for development in the district and the local community.
