KUCHING: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to foster international tourism, culture and economic cooperation between Germany and Sarawak was signed at the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Berlin.

The MoU on Tuesday was signed by Ethos Connect International Consulting Sdn Bhd managing director Sim Ling Ling and IHK-Projekgesellschaft chief executive officer Peter Woffling, witnessed by Sarawak Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, assistant minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin and Frankfurt mayor Claus Junghanns.

The MoU between IHK and Ethos marked a new chapter to international collaboration and partnership between the two parties in tourism, sports, culture and youth programmes, which will have spillover effects to all other industries in Sarawak.

The combination of strength and expertise from IHK-PG and Ethos would maintain, among others, quality and sustainable economic development as well as workforce development for future challenges.

The first cultural and tourism exchange between the two would take place in September, where a group of German and Polish interns would arrive in Sarawak for apprenticeship programmes.

According to Abdul Karim, Sarawak is the best destination for German and Polish tourists as the state has an abundance of nature parks, natural resources and attractions, as well as warm and friendly people.

The Sarawakian entourage later visited the state-of-the-art Olympics Sports Centre.
