LAWAS: Local youths are being encouraged to seek further education and enhance their skills in preparation for the rapidly changing and challenging global landscape.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan pointed out the critical role of youth as the cornerstone of society, the state, and the nation’s future.

“By 2030, youths are anticipated to be the predominant demographic, steering and defining Malaysia’s leadership,” he said.

His speech was read on his behalf by Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong at the SAMAsedia 2024 event, organised by Amanah Khairat Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak (AKYBMS) held at the Malaysian Islamic Training Institute Lawas Campus recently.

Awang Tengah also said that the voting privilege given to youth should be executed with utmost responsibility.

“Voting, a quintessential duty performed every five years during elections, should not be taken lightly. Young voters must recognise the weight of their decisions in selecting their local representatives,” he added.

He further cautioned against underestimating the power of a single vote, warning that apathy could lead to widespread non-participation.
