Arifin briefs local fishermen on important matters pertaining to fisheries.

MUKAH: Local fishermen have been advised to get acquainted with the e-licensing system (ePelesenan LKIM).

Mukah District Fisheries head Arifin Drahman said the system was introduced by the government to facilitate certain procedures, and also for the convenience of fishermen.

He stressed that fishermen needed to learn the new system when renewing their license and other related matters.

They should seek the assistance of the Mukah-Oya Area Fishermen Association if they are still not familiar with the system.

“From today onwards, fishermen have to learn the new system, and our department will assist them,” he said here yesterday.

Arifin was briefing over 50 local fishermen during a programme, and he touched on other important matters, including the rules and regulations that local fishermen must abide by.

He made special reference to the penalty imposed if trawlers encroached upon the area confined to Zone A coastal fishermen (less than five nautical miles).

According to him, the fines ranged from RM3,000, RM6,000 to RM12,000 and their licences would also be suspended for 12 months.
