KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will only be working with parties that can form a stable government at the federal level, said GPS secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He said the cooperation between GPS with other parties will only be scrutinised after the 15th General Election.

“We, in GPS, want stability in our federal government because we understand that with a stable government, we can move forward our economy especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We want to focus on our people, economy and our country. Therefore, we will be on sides with parties that can form a stable government for the benefits of the rakyat and Malaysia, and this is our GPS principle,” said Nanta, who is also the Kapit incumbent MP.

He said this during a press conference at the closing ceremony of the Craft Promotion programme in conjunction with the Buy Malaysia Campaign 2022 at Publika Shopping Gallery in Kuala Lumpur today (Oct 16).

Meanwhile, Batang Sadong incumbent Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri asserted that GPS is an independent coalition in Sarawak.

“We do not depend on other parties, but when the government is formed after the GE15, we will look into which coalition can ensure political stability of the country.

“We have learned from before, and we do not want the past to repeat,” she said.

Alluding to questions on the deputy prime minister post for Sarawak, Nancy said the country’s political stability must be put first instead of political posts.

“The post, not that it’s not important, but it can be discussed later. When we have great support from the people, and win big in the election, we will have a bigger voice.

“And with that, we can propose to the federal government on how the coalition can work together to strengthen Malaysia with the support from Sarawak,” said the caretaker Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister.
