KUCHING: We welcome Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s appointment as the 10th Prime Minister, said Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine.

“We agree with the decree of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to cooperate with other parties in the peninsula to form a unity government; it is for the sake of administrative stability in the federal government.

“We can’t let the parliament hang for a long time and a decision like this should be made immediately,” he said in a statement yesterday.

However, Royston pointed out that they wish for representatives of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to be in the Cabinet of the unity government in the positions of ministers and deputy ministers accordingly.

“The post of Deputy Prime Minister should also be given to Sarawak to represent Borneo since GPS won the majority of Parliament seats and even State Assembly seats in Sarawak,” he said.

Royston noted that the results of the past 12th state election and 15th general election (GE15) clearly show the unanimous support of the people of Sarawak for GPS.

“This will undoubtedly have a direct impact on the same support for the unity government that will be formed by Anwar later,” he said.

In the last state election, SE12, GPS won 76 seats out of 82 while in the recent general election the party won 23 out of 31 parliamentary seats in Sarawak.
