KUCHING: Folks in the Mukah seat can heave a sigh of relief as MP Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib managed to retain her seat.

The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate secured 21,733 votes against her sole contender from Pakatan Harapan (PH) Abdul Jalil Bujang’s 6,047 votes, with a majority of 15,686 in this 15th general election (GE15).

“With the mandate given by the voters, I will continue to serve the people, especially those in the rural areas.

“Most people don’t realise that when it comes to the people living in the interior, they do not know the ministry or agency that is responsible for that kind of matter is.

“That is why even though some matters are not under my care, I will always consider what their needs are and try to speak to the agency and ministry involved so that we can resolve their problems for them,” she said.

She said this when met by the media upon the announcement of her victory at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) tonight.
