KUCHING: Donating blood has become a routine for 37-year-old Muhammad Syafiq, who has donated blood 30 times.

He was among the blood donors who joined the Blood Donation Campaign organised by JCI Padawan which was held at CityOne Megamall here yesterday.

Speaking to New Sarawak Tribune, he said by donating blood, people can save lives regardless of religion, culture.

“It can also be considered as a charity, where there is a reward promised in donating blood and, at the same time, it also reduces the risk of heart disease and even helps balance iron in the donor’s body,” he said.

He added donating blood can also reduce the risk of cancer, especially on the intestines, stomach, liver and throat.

“After all, prevention is better than cure and early prevention is very good,” he said.

Meanwhile, Elvis Hendrix Clement, 25, said donating blood can reduce calories in the body, adding that a study has showed one session can burn 650 calories, which in turn helps donors lose weight, stay healthy and slim, and prevent obesity.

“I have also donated blood more than eight times,” said the cook.

In addition to these benefits, he said donating blood can replace new blood cells and maintain vitality and makes the donor more productive in doing work.

“The body will become more energetic, able to function better and the body will feel fresher,” he said.

According to JCI Padawan, participating in blood donation has the potential to facilitate the well-being of others or even contribute to their survival. Additionally, the donor may potentially experience certain discomfort as a result. However, it is advisable for an individual to engage in a conversation regarding the potential hazards prior to engaging in the act of blood donation.

Emphasising the great importance of this event, it added giving blood can be a life-saving act and each donation has the potential to save up to three lives but it may also have benefits for the donor

Donors can derive satisfaction from the understanding that their selfless benevolence will have a lasting impact on the well-being of countless individuals.
