MIRI: The state government is confident that Sarawak can achieve herd immunity against Covid-19 by August this year.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg  said the ‘jab first, register later’ approach had proven to be effective.

He said 1.5 million of the state’s population had received their first Covid-19 vaccine dose while 818,398 had completed their second dose.

Abang Johari disclosed this after visiting the vaccination centre at Curtin University Sarawak campus here today.

He congratulated the people here for their cooperation in helping the government to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

“Their cooperation helped to expedite the vaccination drives,” he said.

Abang Johari added that various industrial sectors in the state had been included in the vaccination programme.

“Besides the plantations, we have also included those involved in intensive labour such as the retail sectors for the vaccination drives. This is very crucial to expedite the vaccination process,” he said.
