KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen continues his commitment to education with the distribution of this year’s first batch of the Tertiary Education Assistance Fund to 36 deserving students from P195 Bandar Kuching.

Due to his official duties in Kuala Lumpur, George Lam, the special assistant to the Bandar Kuching MP, handed over the funds to the students on Friday (April 26).

“Last year, my office distributed a total of 117 Tertiary Education Assistant Funds to eligible students under my constituency. They each received RM1,500,” Dr Yii said through a statement.

“Since I was elected as a Member of Parliament, education has always been an area of development that I have emphasised, and most of the allocations under my constituency have been used for education.”

He added that in addition to allocating funds to schools to upgrade facilities, he was also concerned about the burden of further education for students from needy families, so his office has established this Tertiary Education Assistance Fund.

“We hope that this small amount of funds can help reduce the financial burden on the families of the student’s parents, especially now that inflation and students continuing their further study to uni/college is a huge expense for many families.

“This Tertiary Education Assistance Fund is allocated once a year, and students who come from the P195 Bandar Kuching can apply annually.

“However, the allocation of this education fund still depends on the government’s allocation to the annual allocation of MPs. We will continue this initiative as long as government allocation is available.

“I hope that the recipients can make good use of this education fund, strive for excellence in their studies, live up to the expectations of their parents make contributions to society, and also become pillars of the country after they have completed their studies.”
