KUCHING: Sarawak deemed as a high-income state by the World Bank serves as an indication that the state is on track to achieve its economic goals.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that with the state’s increased income last year, Sarawak had exceeded the World Bank’s gross national income (GNI) per capita threshold.

“Our income has indeed increased and it exceeds the World Bank’s threshold. We also have to mention that this (GNI) is statistical economic data, which serves as an indication that our economy is developing.

“Therefore, after this, on the individual household income, we already have income that we consolidate with the state and this income will be distributed to the development planned through the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030),” he said.

He said this when met by the media after the officiating ceremony of the Al-Malik Mosque, Taman Uni Garden, Kota Samarahan today.

In light of this, Abang Johari said that the development planned will provide a new ecosystem that benefits the community through the developed sectors.

“What is important is connectivity, infrastructure including electricity and water supply. Meaning, in 2025 or 2026 when the infrastructures are fully completed and developed, the rakyat can use their own skills to increase their income according to their ability,” he said.

He noted that the three main components that need to be given emphasis on in developments are talent development, basic infrastructure, and technology.

“Once you have these strong foundations, InsyaAllah by 2030, our income and the income in the society will definitely increase,” he said.
