KOTA SAMARAHAN: The first-ever Hock Seng Lee (HSL) Samarahan Marathon has received an overwhelming response from the public.

With a target of 2,000 participants, there are now only 300 slots remaining across all categories of the two-day event, which will be held on May 11 and 12.

The event also coincides with the La Promenade’s Mother’s Day celebration.

Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos highlighted that one of the primary objectives of the event is to acquaint people with Samarahan and its rich cultural heritage.

“Furthermore, this event serves as an excellent avenue to encourage the public to engage in healthy physical activities.”

He added that several countries, including Singapore and Brunei, will be participating in the marathon.

“It just goes to show how exciting Samarahan is and how much people enjoy fun and healthy events like this.

“This event is perfect for pros and beginners. And I foresee the Samarahan Marathon to be one of the best in Malaysia for its course.”

Minos told the media this at a press conference on the upcoming marathon at the HSL building here on Thursday (April 18).

On another note, co-organiser Yu Ji said that not only are fewer than 15 per cent of the tickets left, the biggest category, the 21km half marathon, is already sold out.

“We are telling everyone who wanted 21km to instead join other competitive categories by the likes of 10km and 42km.

“Other categories are 3km and 6km fun runs, targeted at children and families with special Best Costume cash prizes.

“Guest judges for Best Costume include popular influencers Global Gibbon and team members of Wanka Travel.”

Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is expected to officiate the first day of the event (May 11), with race pack collection beginning on May 9.
