KUALA LUMPUR: The country’s rising men’s doubles pair, Choong Hon Jian-Muhammad Haikal Nazri secured their first title of the season at the Orleans Masters 2024 in France, yesterday.

Fourth seeds Hon Jian-Muhammad Haikal edged past sixth seeded duo from Indonesia, Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani 21-15, 18-21, 21-14 in 54 minutes during the final held in Palais des sports, Orleans.

The current world number 40 pair walked away with prize money of US$16,590 (RM78,048) while the Indonesians earned US$7,980 (RM37,542) as runner-up of the Super 300 tournament.

Today’s victory marked Hon Jian-Muhammad Haikal’s third World Tour title since they were paired last August.

They had previously won back-to-back titles at the 2023 Syed Modi International Championships and the Masters Guwahati in India last December. Hon Jian-Muhammad Haikal sealed their first title in 2023 Syed Modi International Championships by upsetting top seeds from Japan upset Akira Koga-Taichi Saito 18-21, 21-18, 21-16 followed by a straight sets win over Taiwan’s Lin Bing Wei-Su Ching Heng 21-17, 23-21 to be crowned as the Masters Guwahati champion
