KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching (Hope Place) came to the aid of fire victims in need of supplies last Saturday at Kampung Simuti, Padawan.

Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan said that since that day was a public holiday, no staff members were on duty so volunteers were called up to assist in packing up food items to be given to the fire victims.

“The distance from Kuching to Kampung Simuti is around 70km, which takes approximately an hour and 30 minutes to reach,” said Wan in a statement issued yesterday.

Among the items handed over to the victims were rice, cooking oil, salt, sugar, biscuits, powdered drinks, blankets, towels and pillows — Nyewan Siyug received the items on behalf of the victims.

According to Nyewan, the welfare department had also provided assistance.

The fire occurred last Friday (Oct 11) at 10.30pm, which rendered four victims homeless. No injuries or casualties were reported.

The victims are currently staying with their relatives.
