SIBU: A housewife finds herself RM860,000 poorer after falling victim to an investment scam that unfolded in October last year.

The incident began when the victim, in her late 40s, came across an advertisement on Facebook promoting an investment.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the intrigued victim then clicked on a WhatsApp link and initiated contact with a person named Susan.

Later, she was added to a WhatsApp group named ‘Investment PFG Pro Global Legacy’ where she received information about investments centred around share purchases with a promise of 21 percent profit.

“To proceed with the investment, the woman was instructed to download an investment application provided by the suspect.

“Furthermore, she was required to attend daily investment classes conducted via video link within the WhatsApp group from Monday to Friday.

“The trusting woman proceeded with the instructions and, between November and January, transferred a total of RM918,000 through 16 transactions into six bank accounts under various company names,” he said.

Mancha stated that the transactions were supposedly aimed at making investments through the PFG Pro app.

Despite her substantial investment, the victim only managed to gain a profit of RM54,000.

It was only when she attempted to withdraw the profit and realised she had been cheated as the transaction was impossible, and the suspect had blocked her number.

The victim reported the incident to the police on Jan 12 and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property.
