KUCHING: Newly appointed State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Deputy Speaker Datuk Idris Buang vows to do his utmost best to uphold legislative justice and make reasonable judgement over any issues when presiding over any of the DUN sessions.

He said that in discharging his duties during any sitting of the DUN, he would try to be as impartial as required by the law.

“Of course, I will also bear in mind that fair play is a part and parcel of a healthy democracy,” he told New Sarawak Tribune on Saturday (Feb 12).

Idris, who is also the Muara Tuang assemblyman, said that he admired DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar who had shown exemplary disposition with a great sense of fairness during the DUN sittings.

“I will learn from him and I promise to give my utmost best,” he said.

Idris also took the opportunity to thank the Head of State Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for placing their trust in him to hold such an important statutory position.

On his hope for the three-day DUN Sitting from Feb 14, he hoped it would be smooth and harmonious, especially when there were issues concerning the best interest of Sarawak.

“I also hope the ADUNs (elected representatives) from both political divides will be professional in their conduct during the debate.

“I believe they all have the wisdom to make the DUN as one of the best state parliaments in Malaysia,” added Idris.

He was sworn in as the Deputy Speaker on Friday to replace Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala who has been appointed Assistant Minister in The Chief Minister’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring).
