Illicit fags, booze worth RM100,000 seized

KUCHING: Police have seized 325 cartons of suspected contraband cigarettes and alcoholic drinks in an operation codenamed ‘Ops Kontraban’ on Tuesday (July 25).

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the success was the result of raids conducted by 10 personnel and one officer on five convenience stores around the city.

The seized items comprise 130 cartons of cigarettes and 195 boxes of alcoholic drinks with an estimated value of RM100,000.

“In the raids, we managed to arrest five suspects comprising four women including one foreigner, and a local man.

“All of the suspects are currently remanded until July 30 to facilitate investigations,” he said.

Ahsmon said the case is being investigated under Section 135 (1)(D) of the Customs Act 1967.
