Immigration nets 24 foreigners in Miri, Serian

KUCHING: The Sarawak Immigration Department has arrested 24 foreigners in Serian and Miri earlier this week in a series of raids.

In Miri, the Immigration Enforcement Unit there conducted four operations codenamed ‘Ops Selera’, ‘Ops Belanja’, ‘Ops Gegar’ and ‘Ops Sapu’ on Feb 20 and 21.

The operations targeted residential areas, reflexology centres and eateries around the city.

A total of 51 foreigners were inspected for their documentations. Of the figure, 16, including a child, were arrested for various immigration-related offences.

Meanwhile in Serian, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit conducted two operations codenamed ‘Ops Selera’ and ‘Ops Kutip’ at various eateries and bus terminal to detect undocumented migrants working without valid passes.

This led to inspections on 52 individuals and of the figure, eight were arrested  for committing various offences.

All the detained foreigners are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c), Section 15(1)(c), and Section 39(b) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

In light of this, the public is urged to report information on foreigners living in Malaysia without valid passes through existing channels or to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
