KUCHING: Sarawak must embrace the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0) which is influencing the people’s behaviour and way of life worldwide.

Serba Dinamik Group chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah said IR 4.0 would give bigger impetus to the development of the state’s digital economy which would then improve the state’s income level in all sectors.

He added that IR 4.0 would increase flexibility and improve skills, productivity and quality as well as create a more efficient marketing process.

“Increased flexibility will help manufacturers to plan production scales from time to time while giving space for production in bulk,” he said at the Sarawak Beyond Paradigm Summit 2019 at Pullman Hotel here recently.
Abdul Karim said the benefits of IR 4.0 were that many studies had been conducted in the design and
development activities.

“It also creates opportunities for critical thinking skills which would be vital in the future workplace,” he added.
Abdul Karim admitted that it would not be smooth sailing for the implementation of IR 4.0, adding that there were many challenges which needed to be resolved such as revolution awareness, production cost and increase in skilled workers.

It would, among others, has impact on unemployment due to heavy reliance on machines and cyber threats.

“But, the negative impacts would be nothing compared to the positive impacts it would have on people.
“It is therefore imperative for Sarawak to take the opportunity to fully embrace and shift aggressively towards the use of IR 4.0,” he pointed out.
