BINTULU: Efforts to shape the mind, attitude and culture of the people in order to become a responsible society and instil a high awareness of cleanliness and the beauty of the environment need to be applied as a culture of daily life.

Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming said that with awareness education and the cultivation of cleanliness, the community can be educated to create a clean and beautiful environment while avoiding dirty areas from becoming a breeding ground for animals that can carry diseases.

“We are aware that lately we have experienced quite frequent rainy seasons. This leads to a situation that we often face, which is the increase in the population of Aedes mosquitoes when the weather returns.

“Therefore, it is important for us to always be aware and take precautionary measures so that we can control and reduce related problems.

Pang, represented by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bintulu Branch deputy chairman Siew Chiew Choung, said this when speaking at the Gotong Royong Assyakirin Year 2024 programme held at the Kampung Assyakirin Phase 1 Hall grounds, here, today.

Meanwhile, Pang also called on the residents, especially in the two settlements involved, to cultivate a spirit of mutual cooperation to clean up the breeding grounds of the Aedes mosquito which is the agent for the spread of the dengue epidemic.

The programme organised by N.68 Tanjong Batu Service Centre in collaboration with the Assyakirin Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Phases 1 and 2, among other things, aimed to make the community aware of keeping their surroundings clean from time to time.
