MIRI: The Ministry of Health (MoH) is actively identifying a suitable site for the construction of an interim clinic to replace the health operation at Long Lama Community Hall.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni stated that areas near the Rural Growth Centre (RGC) in Long Lama have been pinpointed.

He affirmed that discussions with local representatives are underway to finalise the clinic’s location.

“To restore the Long Lama Health Clinic, which was closed due to soil erosion and structural damage, a substantial cost is required.

“Additionally, the condition of the land does not ensure the safety of the existing building structure.

“Therefore, the ministry prioritises constructing an interim clinic to facilitate improved and comfortable healthcare services for the community,” he said to the media after a walkabout at the Miri City Health Clinic today.

According to Lukanisman, the MoH has approved the proposal to build the clinic to address the healthcare needs of the local population, previously served by the Long Lama Health Clinic.

The Long Lama health clinic has been housed in the Long Lama community hall since its closure in July 2020 due to soil erosion causing structural damage.

In November of last year, Lukanisman stated that the MoH would proceed with building the interim clinic once a location was finalised.

He assured that the MoH would expedite the construction process, aiming to be operational within five to seven years.
