MIRI: Sarawakians must continue to support the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government so that ongoing development can be implemented.

Minister of Utilities Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said the people must learn from what happened during the previous government which ruled for 22 months.

“GPS has proven its capability by continuing to implement development projects, and not just engage in mere rhetoric.

“Under the 22-month government, many mega projects were slashed. But the GPS took over,” he said at the handing over ceremony of Sares projects costing RM35 million to 13 longhouses within the Telang Usan constituency at Long Pillah in Baram today.

Rundi, who is also the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president said while under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, the state’s future will be bright.

“Abang Johari is the brain behind the Upper Rajang Development Agency (Urda), Highland Development Agency (HDA), Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) and Sri Aman Development Authority (Sada) — all of which accelerate rural development.

“This is because providing roads, water and electricity supplies are the top priority of the GPS government,” he said.

He added that Abang Johari was also smart in looking for extra revenue for the state, and now the state has more income from the state sales tax (SST) which will go into development.

“If there is no SST, it will be difficult for us to implement projects, and we have to wait for allocations from the federal government. Instead of waiting, now we can look for our own fund,” he said.

Therefore, he hoped the people would give their undivided support to the GPS government.

“I hope that the people not only say in words that they will support, but you must be sincere,” said Rundi.
