SARIKEI: It has been explained that the closure of the Pan Borneo Highway in the Jakar section here is only temporary, for two months.

A news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) quoted it as saying, the closure aims to guarantee the safety of road users as the work to put of sewers and retaining walls will be carried out in that section.

In order to ease strain on the residents, particularly Jakar Town’s traders, it was stated that the construction of retaining walls and sewers would be completed as quickly as possible.

Yesterday the representative of Sarikei Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, Kapitan Ling Dien Yong together with a delegation from the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway, the Public Works Department (PWD) and traders held a survey of the Pan Borneo Highway Site at Jakar.

It followed complaints from traders in Jakar that business had been affected due to the closure of the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway at CH 42+500.
