KUCHING: A ‘plogging’ (the act of picking up trash and litter while jogging) event was held here recently to promote the importance of incorporating sustainable practices into daily routines.

Organised by Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM) and Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak, the initiative was held in conjunction with the National Environment Day 2023 celebration and Youth Green X Change (YGXC) prize giving ceremony of the Best Speaker and Best Writers Awards, marking a significant step towards a cleaner and greener future.

“The plogging event unfolded as a vibrant embodiment of community outreach and digital engagement.

“Participants, including the YGXC awardees, volunteers and members of both organisations, actively joined forces to jog from the streets of Civic Centre to the AZAM Complex at Crookshank Road while simultaneously picking up trashes,” AZAM said in a press statement.

One of the most notable highlights was the usage of the innovative ‘Clean Swell’ mobile applications.

“Designed to empower individuals to make a tangible impact on their surroundings, the Clean Swell application allows users to keep track and categorise different types of wastes collected during their plog, contributing to data-driven insights for targeted clean-up efforts. “With this technological addition, the plogging activity extended beyond the event’s confines, enabling ongoing participation and data-driven action,” AZAM added
