KUCHING: The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued a total of 186 summonses for various traffic offences in an operation last Friday (Sept 22).

According to the department, the operation codenamed ‘Ops Pengarah’, was conducted by the operations unit along Mile 15, Jalan Kuching-Serian.

A total of 1,299 vehicles were inspected and 186 summonses issued for various traffic offences.

Among the offences were not having driver’s licence, expired road tax and technical-related offences.

The department said one lorry was confiscated for not possessing a road tax and for allegedly transporting contraband. It will be handed over to the Customs Department for further action.

In addition, three motorcycles were also confiscated for violating traffic rules.

The public is advised to ensure that all documents such as driver’s licences and vehicle licences are not expired and that the vehicle specifications are in accordance with the permitted standards.

Meanwhile, commercial vehicle owners must ensure that they do not carry excess or dangerous loads.
