Kampung Binyu Cluster detected

KUCHING: The State Health Department has announced a new cluster — Kampung Binyu Cluster — today (Apr 3).

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) stated that the cluster is a community cluster involving a wedding ceremony in Kampung Binyu, Jalan Tanjung Bako here.

“This cluster was detected when several symptomatic individuals (Cases 16,214; 16,194; and 16,196) underwent Covid-19 screening at health facilities in Kuching and Bintulu and tested positive on Mar 30.

“It was known that these cases attended a wedding in Kampung Binyu,” it said.

Following active case detection (ACD) and screening on all close contacts, family members and casual contacts to these cases, an additional 65 positive cases were detected.

A total 231 individuals were screened where 68 tested positive including the index case, while 163 cases were negative.

“All positive cases in this cluster were referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in Kuching, and Bintulu Hospital.

“Close contacts to these positive cases have been admitted to quarantine centres,” it said.

With the addition of the new cluster, the state now has 37 active clusters where 14 reported an additional number of cases.

Meanwhile, SDMC also revealed that the Belaga District is now a green zone after recording only one local transmission case in the past 14 days.

“Bukit Mabong District is now a yellow zone after recording 20 local Covid-19 cases in the past two weeks.

“This brings the number of red zone districts in the state to 10 red zone districts with three orange zones, 19 yellow zones, and eight green zones.”
