KUCHING: The entry of West Malaysian-based party, Parti PribumiBersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) depends on whether the people of Sarawak accept it or not.
Minister of Tourism, Art, Culture, Youth and Sport, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said that since Malaysia was a democratic country, any party that wanted to come in or set a branch in the state was most welcome.
“But it all depends on other parties and whether the people here agree to it or not,” he told reporters after attending a press conference on the Rainforest Fringe Festival (RFF) at Borneo 744 here yesterday.
Karim, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Vice-President, however, pointed out that the people in Sarawak were politically mature enough to make the right decision.
“But I am curious. Why does Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is also the Chairman of Pribumi, wants to bring in Pribumi?,” he asked.
“Why is there the need to do so? It could be Tun M does not really trust Sarawak-based PH that consists of Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR),” he added.
The Asajaya State Assembly explained that he was “just guessing” and besides, it was not wrong to speculate.
“Anyway, it is good to see. The more the merrier, lah.”
