SIBU: The Kenyalang Tourism Booster (KTB) is a platform aimed at empowering the local community and boosting the tourism sector in Sarawak.

Innovative Youth Cooperative Sarawak Berhad (Kobis) chairman Zaiwin Kassim said KTB plays a crucial role in empowering local leaders, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), especially youth.

“KTB is organised in collaboration between Kobis and the BIMP-EAGA Young Entrepreneur’s Chamber (BYEC), and supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts.

“This programme is held in selected locations, with Sibu being given priority for this year’s programme. Previously, KTB was held in Serian.

“After Sibu, we will hold it in Sarikei, followed by Bintulu, and it will conclude in Miri for this year,” he said at the inauguration of KTB @ Sibu 2023, which took place at the Malay Union Club (MUC) Hall, Kampung Nyabor here on Sunday (Oct 1).

KTB @ Sibu 2023 was launched in conjunction with a carnival held from Sept 29 to Oct 1.

According to him, KTB focuses on the slogan ‘Blooming Homestays, Communities, and Beyond@‘ and is attended by over 70 per cent of local representatives here.

“In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG #8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG #11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG #17 (Partnerships for the Goals), KTB stands as a responsible and sustainable tourism landmark in preserving Sarawak’s natural heritage and culture.”

Zaiwin said more than 30 youth associations and NGOs are collaborating to make this programme a success, in addition to receiving support from various agencies and entrepreneurs for the Sibu programme.

He hoped that this initiative will receive a positive response and provide a stimulus to the digital and hybrid tourism and arts industry, especially in sports, marine, eco, and cultural tourism.
