KUCHING: The Chinese community will soon be ushering in the Year of the Rabbit on Jan 22.
Not surprisingly, they are already preparing early and many were seen buying Chinese New Year (CNY) decorations at Green Gallery, BDC here on Monday (Jan 2).
According to one of the gallery’s owners Carmen Chai, the decorations on sale at their shop are seasonal as the items depended on the current celebrations such as Christmas, Hari Raya and CNY.
On the CNY decorations, she said 10 of the most popular ones are the lanterns; any flowers such as cherry blossoms, peonies and bamboo plants; stickers with different meanings that signifies prosperity; ang pow decorations; artificial fireworks; food tray with Chinese decor; the rabbit year decorative items; ang pow bags; fresh flowers and hanging key chains with its own special meanings.
“We have been conducting our business for the past 16 years.
“For each season of any of the festival or celebration, we will be selling decorations accordingly.
“This CNY is the Year of the Rabbit and it’s one of our most popular decorative items on sale here at the moment.
“The Chinese zodiacs have many different animal symbols and during the celebration, it is believed that all the animals live together in harmony.”
