KUCHING: The annual Khatam Al-Quran held at SK Encik Buyong is one of the school’s highly anticipated yearly events.

It took place on Wednesday (Feb 7) at 8am, with 70 students participating from various age groups.

Rozelan Drahman, serving as the leader (fatih munabih), along with Nukman Nazaruddin, Harith Abdullah Hatta, and Fazrul Arwadi Ahmad, who are teachers of Islamic Religious Knowledge (Kafa) at the school, led the ceremony.

“To celebrate the event in 2024, participating students adorned coordinated green and golden-yellow attire as the theme for the Khatam Al-Quran. The lively ceremony was attended by honoured guests, including SK Encik Buyong principal Rosnah Posa, Parent-Teacher Association deputy chairperson Dayang Norazimah Abang Muas, Penghulu Morni Abon, and village chiefs,” according to a statement on Thursday (Feb 8).

Furthermore, parents of all sixth-grade students attended, along with students set to receive awards for academic excellence, completion certificates for preschoolers (6 years), and sixth-grade students.

Awards were presented for best attendance, best subjects, and the Nadi Ilmu Amalan Membaca (Nilam) programme in various categories.

The programme continued with an appreciation ceremony recognising students’ academic achievements.

The event commenced with a dance performance by SK Encik Buyong students, led by teacher Masniah Bojeng, who had previously won the state-level Creative Dance Performance competition at the Aswara Cultural Arts Festival organised by Aswara.

“This success demonstrated that with effort, spirit, and support from all parties, students can be creative, innovative, and motivated in today’s society. The students received adequate training, resulting in an impressive performance.”

The event featured a speech by Rosnah, expressing gratitude to the organising committee and various supporters for the smooth and vibrant execution of the event.

Rosnah also urged collaboration between the school and parents in all school-related activities, emphasising the crucial role of parents in monitoring their children’s attendance.

The highlight of the event was the eagerly awaited recognition awards. The Co-curricular Award was won by Syakir Padilah (male) and Nur Sherina Mohd Alif (female).

The Best Academic Award for 2023 went to Hafiz Syahmi Sufian (male) and Erfa Farisya (female), while the Seri Buyong Award was won by Mohd Syakir Padeli.
